Adegbesan emerges as president of the Pan African Scrabble Association

Egbele praises Nwali for winning the African Championship

Adekoyejo Adegbesan has been elected President of the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) in an election contest held at the recently concluded African Scrabble Championship in Lusaka, Zambia.

Adegbesan, a Scrabble star from Nigeria, defeated the current president of the Pan-African Scrabble Association, Muhammed Kamara, by 9 votes to 1.

The ‘Sheik’, as he is called, is currently the president of the Ogun State Scrabble Association (OSSA). He will be in charge of directing the continental body’s affairs for two years.

Since scrabble took over in Ogun State, there has been a huge transformation in the sport. His club, Airpop Alpha, recently claimed the 2022 Mindgames Scrabble Premier League (MSPL) title.

Adegbesan also runs an all-female scrabble club, the Airpop Falcons.

Meanwhile, the organizer of the Annual Emmanuel Egbele Scrabble Tournament (EEAST), Emmanuel Egbele, praised Enoch Nwali for winning the 14th African Scrabble Championship, which concluded in Zambia during the week.

Egbele said Nwali, who also won this year’s EEAST Championship in June, has shown that the tournament was a good staging ground for showcasing scrabble talent.

Egbele also praised the Nigerian team for their overall success at the African Scrabble Championship, where the country won a record 13th title.

The Nigerian Scrabble Federation South West Zonal Coordinator thanked the Scrabble community and the Nigerian Scrabble Federation Board of Directors for hosting Scrabble Championships this year to keep players focused on the sport.
