‘Adeleke belongs to us and we all belong to Tinubu’ – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adelekeis firmly within his political camp and that both remain loyal to President Bola Tinubu.

The statement followed Adeleke’s visit to Wike in Abuja on Thursday, during which the governor presented his Certificate of Return to the FCT minister. That visit came after Adeleke earlier met President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, amid intensifying political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Adeleke belongs to us and we all belong to Mr. President. Thank you brother,” Wike said.

Speaking to journalists on Friday during an inspection exercise in Abuja, Wike said Adeleke’s decision to visit him and the president was a test of where the governor’s loyalty lay.

“So Adeleke fully supports Mr. President,” he said.

The FCT minister used the occasion to criticize members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), whom he accused of trying to take credit for Adeleke’s electoral victory, insisting that the governor had since fully aligned himself with the ruling camp.

“I told them the 2027 election would be the deepest election. I told ADC they’re talking about, oh, they helped Adeleke win, they just wanted to move on and reap what they never planted, you know,” he said.

Wike predicted that the coalition backing Tinubu’s re-election bid would continue to expand in the coming weeks, describing the alliance building already underway as unprecedented.

“And so, last night we went to bed and encouraged ourselves to continue. And in the next few weeks, look what is going to happen. You will see a larger rainbow coalition in this country supporting Mr. President,” he said.

He rejected any suggestion that the battle lines for 2027 had already been drawn and maintained that the race remained open.

“You will see more. And that is why I said, the election is not over. It is not over,” he said.

Wike also focused his attention on former presidential candidate and editor Dele Momodu for his alleged closeness to the ADC and Adeleke, questioning the basis of that association.

“I don’t know where Dele Momodu is now. Every time you see him on television, he was born in Ife thinking that would make Adeleke come to your side,” he said.
