The Zenith Labor Party (ZLP) has replaced its gubernatorial candidate for the November 6 elections in Anambra State, Mr. Uche Ugwoji, by Dr. Obiora Okonkwo.
The party will also unveil Okonkwo and her running mate Jessie Balonwu, a former legislator and commissioner in Anambra state to the people on a date to be announced soon.
Okonkwo, a former member of the Popular Democratic Party, PDP had resigned from the party at the weekend after competing to fly the party’s flag in the November 6 gubernatorial election in the state.

Okonkwo’s media adviser Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, who revealed the replacement of the party’s candidate for Okonkwo, said the process was completed on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Uchegbu in a press release made available to NEWSLODGE in Awka said: “With the development, Dr. Okonkwo will now be on the ballot as the candidate of the Zenith Labor Party (ZLP) for the November 6 elections in the state. of Anambra.
“The presentation followed the resignation of Dr. Okonkwo from the Popular Democratic Party (PDP). Okonkwo resigned from the PPD in protest following the outcome of an illegitimate primary election in which the party abandoned its constitution and imposed on members a process that cannot stand the test of law, leaving the party with a barrage of litigation that does not target. in a clear direction as the November 6 elections approach.

“The name of Dame (Barr.) Jessie Balonwu, former member of the House of Representatives and also former PDP State Leader of Women, a running mate of Dr. Okonkwo, was also presented to INEC.
“Dame Balonwu, who is from Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra North Senate District, was also the first Igbo Senator-elect and Education Commissioner in Anambra State. She also served the state meritoriously as president of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB between 2005 and 2007.
“The ZLP leadership will formally introduce Dr. Okonkwo and Dame Balonwu to the good people of Anambra State in the coming days,” Uchegbu said.
Since after the PPD primary elections in the state, in which Okonkwo lost to Valentine Ozigbo by a very narrow margin, several groups have asked him to re-enter the race through another party, claiming that he had all the necessary qualities. for the office of governor of the state.
One of the groups, the Anambra Rescue Mission (ARM), led by Azubike Anazor, had addressed journalists last week, saying that it would lead a delegation to the Ogidi-born Chief to grant his request.
