Bandits have no political party, Sokoto government aide tells politicians

The Special Adviser on Security Affairs to Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Colonel Ahmed Usman (Rtd), has urged political leaders and other stakeholders to put aside partisan differences and unite against banditry and other security challenges facing the state.

Usman made the call while reacting to recent comments by some opposition politicians on the security situation in Sokoto, saying the fight against insecurity should not become a political battle.

He stressed that the bandits do not recognize political, religious or social affiliations when attacking their victims.

“The bandits have no political party. They do not ask if their victims are APC, PDP or members of any other party before attacking. They simply attack innocent citizens.

“That is why insecurity should worry us all. We must put politics aside and work together to protect our people and restore peace,” he said.

The Special Adviser recognized the right of opposition politicians to criticize government policies, but urged them to make their contributions constructive and support efforts to address insecurity.

He commended former Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, for what he described as his continued intervention in support of victims of banditry and his efforts to mobilize relevant people and institutions to find solutions to the security crisis.

According to him, “Senator Aliyu Wamakko has shown that there is a better way to contribute to the fight against insecurity.

“It has supported victims and communities affected by banditry and has continued to reach out to people and institutions who can contribute to finding lasting solutions.”

Usman said the government appreciated political leaders who had demonstrated genuine concern for the safety and well-being of residents, regardless of their political affiliations.

He urged other politicians to emulate such initiatives, saying the security challenge required contributions from all.

“Those who have ideas and suggestions should present them constructively. Those who have the capacity to support security efforts should also make their contributions.

“At this critical time, our priority should be the protection of lives and property, not political differences,” he said.

He further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders and the general public to support security agencies by providing credible information that can help prevent attacks and apprehend criminals.

The Special Adviser assured residents that the Sokoto State Government remained committed to strengthening security operations and working with relevant stakeholders to create a safer environment where citizens could live, farm and conduct business without fear.
