The Police Command in Osun announced on Monday the arrest of a seven-man armed robbery gang terrorizing Osogbo and its surroundings.
Osun Police Commissioner (CP), Mr. Olawale Olokode, while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Osogbo, said the suspects were arrested when a victim reported an attack on their residence.
“On February 7, around 7:50 am, the case of armed robbery was reported in the Oja-Oba Police Division and the agents of the Police Response Unit (PRU) took action.
“The robbery victim said that about five people, armed with dangerous weapons, broke into his apartment, around Ilesha Garage, Osogbo, and stole valuables, including an unregistered Toyota Camry, all valued at N3.65 million,” He said.
However, he said that some of the thieves were arrested in Lagos, Oyo and Ogun states.
The police chief said they all made confessional statements that their main operations were largely carried out within the metropolis of Osogbo.
The PC also paraded two other suspects, arrested for obtaining money under pretext.
According to him, the suspects usually run away with money collected from their victims after promising to present them with business opportunities that they (the suspects) knew were bogus.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the police chief also paraded other suspects arrested for various crimes, including car theft and possession of dangerous weapons.
The PC, however, said that all the arrested suspects would be charged in court after the investigations were completed.
He assured the residents of the state the safety of their lives and property.
