Two people have been arrested in London, United Kingdom (UK), on suspicion of assisting Iran’s intelligence service, the Metropolitan Police said.
A 60-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were arrested on Wednesday at separate properties in London as part of an investigation into alleged offenses under the UK’s National Security Act.
Both suspects were detained on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service. They have since been released on bail under strict conditions until the end of October.

The Metropolitan Police said the arrests were not related to any incidents or attacks involving the Jewish and Iranian communities in London earlier this year.
The arrests followed searches at two properties in north and northwest London in June, police said.
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of London’s Counter Terrorism Police, said she understood the arrests could worry the public, but stressed there was no imminent threat to the general public.
He said police had seen a significant increase in investigations into state and national security threats over the past year and warned that officers would take action when they suspected activity could threaten the UK or the public.
The terrorist threat level in the UK remains serious, meaning an attack is considered very likely. Police have urged the public to remain alert.
