– Soldiers deployed to prevent further assassinations, arson

– Buildings, cars bulldozed.

Dayo Johnson Akure

Two people were feared to be killed in lkare, a northeastern council area of Akoko in Ondo state because of Okoja’s head title in the troubled community.

Soldiers have quickly deployed to the community following sporadic gunfire throughout the community.

They were stationed in strategic positions in the community.

gathered that several houses and vehicles were set on fire during the crisis that reportedly began on Monday.

One of those killed was reportedly shot to death in Okorun neighborhoods, while the other was killed in Okeruwa neighborhoods.

Recall that the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh had dethroned the occupant of the seat, Chief Idowu Ogunye.
for alleged absenteeism, disloyalty and refusal to obey his directive.

The monarch relieved Chief Ogunye’s appointment with effect from January 20, 2021 and warned him to stop parading as Olokoja de Okoja.

But Chief Ogunye thereafter joined forces with a rival monarch at Ikare-Akoko, the late Owa Ale of Ikare, Samuel Adedoyin.

He insisted that he was still the Olokoja and described his suspension and alleged expulsion as illegal and outside the tradition of Ikare Akoko.

Among the houses razed are reportedly the new Okoja’s, Sunday Bada, his father’s and the other camp’s.

He met that the crisis started on Monday when thugs interrupted a meeting by the new Okoja.

Addressing reporters, the new Okoja, Chief Sunday Bada said that “we were having our community meeting every nine days when some thugs came to disrupt the peaceful gathering, causing an altercation.

“I want to thank the security agents for their correctness in handling the situation.

“It will be remembered that a Chief Idowu Ogunye was dethroned as Olokoja by Olukare of Ikare and I was installed after he was dethroned.

“Since then, he, along with some scoundrels, has been causing trouble in the community as he did when we were holding our peaceful gathering.

“It will be recalled that he had taken me to the office of the State Director of DSS and to the office of the State Police Commissioner based on requests he wrote to the offices.

“On both occasions he was clearly told that he can no longer be the head of the community because he has been dethroned by the constituted authority.

“They told him that if he was not happy, they advised him to approach the court of law and, for clarity and posterity, he had not gone to court against the lies he is peddling.

“As the main defendant in the possible case, if any, I have not been notified of any legal action and for this reason no one has violated a legal action.

“If I had instituted someone, I should prove it to the whole world by publishing it.

“I call upon the well-meaning indigenous people of Okoja and Ikare to prevail over Baba Idowu Ogunye, the dethroned Olokoja, to stop bringing thugs and thugs to Okoja to allow peace to reign.

”Okoja is not Okorun and it is a pure lie and unfair of him to link this problem with the fight between Olukare and Owa Ale Obaship.

Contacted, the other party alleged that the dethroned Okoja was attacked by thugs sponsored by the new Okoja.

Chief Ogunye alleged that a meeting called by him was interrupted by sponsored thugs.

He accused Bada’s loyalists of being the cause of the crisis in the town since Monday.

Contacted, state police command image maker Tee Leo Ikoro confirmed that no deaths were recorded as rumored.

Ikoro confirmed that the crisis began on Monday and that normality had returned to the community.

The spokesman said he could not confirm the casualties recorded during the crisis.

He said state police commissioner Bolaji Salami had deployed security personnel to strategic locations in the troubled community.
