She declared that the 1,000 nurses and midwives of the four states and the FCT with equal representation to be trained would affect no less than 250,000 pregnant women in turn to reduce the high maternal mortality rate.

Umotte said statistics show that a woman dies every 10.5 minutes of pregnancy complications in Nigeria, but that most of those deaths can be prevented.
Recognizing other diverse factors, such as inadequate health centers, shortage of health personnel, poverty, sociocultural barrier and religious beliefs, among others that are responsible for this narrative, she selected the lack of skills and knowledge of health by many health professionals, especially nurses and midwives to effectively manage pregnancy complications as one of the greatest challenges that has been required according to the country.
“That is why we came up with the Torm campaign as part of our social intervention initiatives to impact society.

“We do not want to lose our women and their babies again due to avoidable complications, especially now that technology has reached almost all parts of the country.”
Birthsafe is a maternal health technology platform focuses on improving survival rates of women and babies in pregnancy using digital prenatal services.
