The former National Secretary of Advertising of the Democratic Party of the Peoples, now a head of the Congress of all the progressives, Professor Rufai Alkali has expressed concern about the uproar and the tension that followed a recent meeting of the interested parties of the party in the Northeast region.
The meeting had ended in noisy when some heads of parties raised their voices against the national vice president of the party, North East, Mustpha Salihu after his silence about the adoption of the vice president, Senator Kashim Shettima as a fellow of strength of Tinubu in the next general elections.

Professor Alkali, who, by the way, is from the state of Gombe in the Northeast region, asked the faithful of the parties that have caution and focus on how to guarantee cohesion within the party instead of clinging to issues that would promote acrimony and division.
His statement entitled, “Reflections on the North East APC interested party meeting,” read partly: “I want to address the unfortunate tension and public concern that followed the meeting of interested parties of the Northeast APC held in Gombe on Sunday, June 15, 2025, particularly the controversy that surrounds the absence of a formal support of its excellence Shettima, next to the president of Bola, Bola, Ahmed Tinubu.
“As a long -standing and committed member of the Congress of all progressives (APC), I feel forced to attract all interested parties, leaders and supporters of the party, especially northeast, to exercise caution, demonstrate political maturity and continue focused on the unity and stability of our great party.
“It is not unusual, in a prosperous democracy, like ours, so that differences of opinion arise, especially as the political impulse is gradually based on the general elections of 2027.” However, we must remember that the APC, over the years, has resisted similar moments with dignity and brotherhood, always putting the cohesion of the party and national interest above all other interests.
“That is clear: now it is not the time for premature posture or muscle flexion. We are barely in the middle of the current administration, which still focuses on the implementation of the renewed hope agenda. Our priority must continue to be consolidated the achievements recorded so far in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and vice president Kashim Shettima, particularly in obtaining our nation Public of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, particularly in obtaining our nation, reviving our economy and restoring public confidence.
“Any divisive sign, particularly from within the ranks of our own party, run the risk of undermining not only our legacy but also the confidence of the Nigerians who entrusted us with leadership. Therefore, we must raise ourselves above the internal friction and recommend us to a constructive dialog party.
“I ask all APC leaders, at the national, zonal and state level, who remain calm and focused. Let's guide our actions for wisdom, not emotion; by long -term vision, not a short -term advantage. We owe not only our party but to the Nigerian people who seek stability, progress and leadership.
“Close the rows, we protect the integrity of the APC and work together to ensure that the party continues to serve as a platform for national renewal and inclusive development..“
