He said this in his speech to party supporters at the official flag-off event for his campaign and House of Assembly candidates held at the Ake Pavilion, Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Adebutu said the state had regressed in governance and infrastructure in the last 15 years, maintaining that the party remained the undisputed strength of the masses, fiercely and uncompromisingly dedicated to the people.
He said: “Ogun State is the sacred land of historical titans. Never again will we hand over our sacred heritage to political mercenaries or transient tourists who are totally blind to our tears.
“For over 31 uninterrupted years, my roots, my wealth, my businesses and my sweat have been irreversibly planted in the soil of Ogun State. I have stood shoulder to shoulder with you, creating jobs and fighting for our collective progress. My interest in our shared destiny is total, permanent and absolute.
“Delivering true and tangible dividends of democracy is not simply our political mission, it is our unbreakable pact with the people of Ogun State.
“History is our irrefutable witness under the PDP, human dignity, monumental infrastructural development and the sacred well-being of the citizenry were unconditionally elevated above all.
“We must evoke the memory of our golden era, the prosperous years from 2003 to 2011, when our local governments breathed with absolute vitality and functional autonomy. In that era, our local economy came to life because our PDP government believed in you, implementing policies that ensured the creation of wealth, particularly at the grassroots; reading all the development indices attest to this fact.”
The gubernatorial candidate said his administration would link its programs for the people to “ITURA”, which literally means “relief”, for the agony, mismanagement and corruption that the ruling party had subjected the people of the state to.
It promised total socio-economic liberation, quality service to the people and participation in the pedigree of prosperity through the implementation of five key cardinal programmes, namely: construction of strategic state infrastructure; people and workforce business development; lead a strong and resilient economy; stimulate functional and livable communities; and ensure accountability, transparency and a corruption-free work environment.
Adebutu promised to pay pensioners their entitlements in due time, and also free local government councils from financial slavery, saying that “true financial autonomy for our local governments will create twenty additional nodes of development. This is not rocket science as the Otunba Gbenga Daniel-led administration was able to practice this effectively.”
“On my honour, I, Honorable Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, solemnly swear to resurrect the glorious and people-centred government of the Peoples Democratic Party. We will take back our state, help create prosperity and be free from the corruption that stifles our progress,” he emphasised.
