65 ° Independence: The Government of Oyo urges the National Unity, renewed hope

The government of the state of Oyo joined the rest of the country on Tuesday to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Independence of Nigeria, with a call to national unity and renewed hope.

Speaking at the event held at the Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, described the issue of the celebration, “Unity and Reconstruction”, so timely and necessary.

Lawal emphasized the need for Nigerians to remain united despite the current economic and social challenges, stating that national cohesion is essential for progress.

“We rarely meet these days to celebrate independence. We must emphasize unity between us in ethnic nationalities. United we are divided, we fall. We must remain united to advance,” he said.

He also urged citizens not to lose hope in the future of the country.

“We must keep hope alive. We should not be dejected,” he added.

The event had a questionnaire competence and debate between students and students from different educational areas throughout the State.

In the primary school category, Lawal Anjola (zone 2 of Ibadan) came first, followed by Oladokun Christianah (Kajola area) and Joseph Tunjesunimi (Ibarapa area) in second and third place, respectively.

At the high school level, Morenikeji Oluwadarasimi (zone 3) emerged the winner, with Akinsola Teniola (zone 1) and Raheem Mercy (area heard) taking second and third positions.

The celebration also had a March competition beyond. In the individual performance of primary school, Ayodele Samuel said first with 98 percent. The Church of Santa James, Iyana, took second place with 64 percent, while San Antonio, Ejioku, took third place with 62 percent.

Among the secondary schools, the high school of Ibadan Boys was the first with 86 percent, the Ibadan government university took second place with 84 percent, while the Saint Anne school, Muelte and Queen’s School followed with 80 and 70 percent, respectively.

The dignitaries in the event included senior government officials, traditional rulers, interested parties of education and members of the public.
