The Executive Director (CEO) of Construction and Housing Mayor Limited, My-Ace China, has requested an emergency state in the Housing Sector of Africa as a strategy to resolve the housing deficit of 42 million in the continent.
He pointed out that the 42 million housing deficit in Africa, and most of Nigeria, was a great concern, saying: “Housing has become a place of crisis that I think should declare an emergency state in Africa.”
China made the call last weekend after emerging as one of the 100 winners of the 2025 edition of the African Legends Awards, along with other prominent Nigerians such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Seyi Tinubu, and the senior head of the Oweizide Ekpemupolo government, president of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).
Also known as the mayor of the house, China revealed that the most prominent factor behind the housing deficit in Africa was the change of indigenous construction systems and materials to the imported and monetized.
“When we were building with local materials, no one in the African villages had no home, but when these highly monetized and imported materials took over, the alarming rate of lack of housing or housing deficiency is shocking,” he said.
Speaking about the impact of his work in Africa, he declared that he was in charge of reducing or eliminating the housing deficit in Nigeria and in all Africa through solutions that, according to him, were simple and sustainable, mainly through collaborations.
“So, my most collaborative businessman in Africa called myself.”
He admitted that Nigeria faced challenges regarding the integrity of the building due to the high incidence of collapsed buildings, saying: “Why do you see that the houses collapse in Nigeria and Africa is that the bureaucracy or the holders of political offices have committed themselves to the established standards.
“Another is that they are in a political power that they know that there will be no consequences of such approval of substandards (houses).
“What the government should be doing to address this is to adopt the proven system called a public-private part (PPP). But at this time, the failure of PPP is when they replaced the private with 'political'.
“But when the government can enter real PPP and have private institutions or people hired to regulate the standard, when a collapse house and a private individual knows that it will suffer, I assure you that no house will collapse in Africa.”
In reaction to the award, the mayor of the Housing, also known as real estate success, said that his greatest impression was the diligence exhibited by the organizers in the identification of genuine entrepreneurs who work to boost the case of Africa.
He made it clear that his group has many strategies and solutions.
“The reason we are starting from Port Harcourt is that it is one of the most beautiful cities that have been underdeveloped in Nigeria and has more potential than even most cities developed in Nigeria. And what we are doing is opening Port Harcourt to the rest of the world.
