… reaffirms the commitment to internal democracy
The national leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has refuted the media reports on the appointment of three new members to its National Work Committee (NWC), which describes the statements as false, deceptive and unauthorized that must be ignored by its members and the general public.
In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by its deputy national secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Biu, the party dismissed the reports that suggested that Senator Ugochukwu Uba, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar and Mr. Hussaini Bello had been appointed as victims of the National City (South), Deputy President (North) and National Financial Secretary.

The reports were attributed to a statement issued by its National Secretary of Advertising, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba.
However, party leadership insisted that such appointments had not been made, and no official meeting or constitutional session was held to occupy the established positions.
The statement said in part: “We wish to affirm categorically that such quotes have not been made, and the press release is false, unauthorized and does not reflect the decisions or procedures of the National Work Committee of SDP.”
The party emphasized its commitment to due process, transparency and inclusive participation in all internal matters, particularly in matters related to leadership restructuring and national representation.
“As a 2027 general election approach, we are not aware of the calculated attempts of certain political individuals and rivals to sow discord and weaken the only credible opposition party that remains in Nigeria,” the party said.
When reaffirming its focus on national development and base empowerment, the party urged members and supporters to ignore misleading reports and continue building support throughout the country.
The leadership also clarified that the alleged meeting held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, which was summoned in dispute reports, did not authorize or adopted any resolution regarding the new appointments in the NWC.
“Our members and the Nigerian public must remain safe in the integrity and cohesion of SDP leadership. SDP is not a personal project but a national platform promoted by the ideals of inclusion, transparency and service,” the statement added.
While asking members to intensify the base mobilization, especially in areas where the party seeks to expand its electoral visibility, the SDP reiterated its resolution to offer determined leadership and become a national redemption vehicle before the 2027 elections.
