A maintenance worker at the Justice Center of the Parish of Orleans in New Orleans has been arrested for allegedly helping 10 inmates to escape through a hole behind a bath, the authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Sterling Williams, who worked on the maintenance of the facilities, was arrested and reserved on Tuesday morning.
In a recent development, Tribune online They reported that ten men, on Friday, escaped from a New Orleans prison after passing through a wall behind a bathroom, but the authorities believe that inmates may have had help from inside the facilities.
The sources have said that Williams allegedly turned off the water to a bathroom, allowing inmates to tear it off the wall and use the space behind him to escape.
It faces 10 positions from Director to a simple escape and a embezzlement position.
Three other prison employees have been suspended as the investigation continues.
The parish district of Orleans, Jason Williams, described the escape as an obvious case of inner aid.
He said: “Even Stevie Wonder can see that this was an internal job. Ten violent criminals do not make their way in a capsule for two and leave their escape well through concrete, bar bars and spike wire, without any internal assistance.”
When asked why an employee could help inmates escape, he said: “I don't know: greed, greed, friendship, the reasons that make men do bad things.”
The escape took place around 1 in the morning on Friday. It was not discovered until a routine staff at 8:30 am
Initially, the authorities believed that 11 inmates had escaped.
They later realized that one had simply been transferred to a different cell.
The surveillance images showed the inmates manipulated with a closed door at 12:22 am, they entered the cell about 20 minutes later.
At 1:01 am, they had escaped through a hole behind the toilet.
They left the building through a cargo spring and climbed the outer wall with blankets to avoid barbed wire.
From there, they went to the next rail and interstate railways.
In a press conference on May 15, the Sheriff of the Parish of Orleans, Susan Hutson, said: “We have the indication that these detainees received assistance in their escape from the inside of our department.
“It is almost impossible, not completely, but almost impossible for anyone to leave this installation without outside the abroad.”
The US Sheriffs, Louisiana State Police and local probation officers were alerted to 9:30 am the New Orleans police was informed at 10:30 am
Three inmates were recaptured Friday night. One was found in the French neighborhood.
Another Gary C. Price, 21, was arrested on Monday.
Until Tuesday, six inmates remain in general.
