The Nigeria Security Research Office (NSIB) has begun an investigation into the landing of the blockade of a diamond training plane operated by the Aviation Training School in Ilorin, Kwara state.
According to a statement from Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, the outbreaking accident training plane occurred at 17:28 local time on May 23, 2025, during a simulated instrument approach on track 05 at Ilorin International Airport.
“The plane deviated from the track and stopped on the grass. Two occupants were on board. Both suffered serious injuries and were quickly evacuated to a medical center, coordinated by the Nigerian Air Space Management Agency (NAMA).
“In response, the NSIB GO team is currently preparing to depart from Abuja to Ilorin to conduct investigations on the site,” the statement explained.
He said that “the team will ensure the site, will collect physical evidence, interviewed the witnesses and recover the operational data to establish the cause and contributing factors of the incident.”
When reacting to the incident, the statement said that the general director of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., declared that: “Our thoughts are with the injured, and we recommend the rapid medical and emergency response. Now, our approach is to understand exactly what went wrong.
“Each research is an opportunity to improve security. We are implementing our team in Ilorin to ensure that no detail is overlooked.”
