A non -governmental organization (NGOs), the Black Girls Dream Initiative (BGDI), has revealed that more than one in five girls of school age in the state of Oyo are not in school, which makes the state the highest with boys outside school in southwest Nigeria.
The BGDI, in association with some parties interested in education in the state, announced this in Ibadan on Wednesday during a awareness workshop organized by the NGO, in association with Global Schools Forum and the foundation of the IFF, and the “education of girls” with fear in the state of Oyo: our shared goal. “
The founder of BGDI, Karimot Odebode, described the number of children outside the school in the state of Oyo as alarming and as a crisis that the Government, schools, parents, traditional rulers and other vital stakeholders must urgently stop.
Odebode pointed out that although the government and other interested parties are doing everything possible to send and maintain children, especially the girl, in school, in barriers such as poverty, early marriage, family responsibilities and cultural expectations are marrying their efforts.
Given this, he added that NGOs, such as BGDI, are working to reverse this trend highlighting the problem, involving decision makers and opening doors to re -enter the classroom because each girl deserves a second chance to learn.
She declared that BGDI, in her search to ensure that more girls obtain quality education and remain at school, align local education data with challenges; collaborating with interested parties to identify, participate and reintegrate girls outside the school; Promote traceable reduction in dropout rates; and increase registration, especially in local governments unattended in the state.
Odebode urged the government, schools and parents to empower girls as future leaders. He explained how his organization is doing this through his debate, tutoring programs, sensitization initiatives and interested parties.
“We must ensure that children not only return to school, but return with confidence, agency and a sense of purpose; and we also make sure to start and maintain an impact on long -term development generated by self -denominated and polite citizens,” he said.
In addition, he said: “We are the facilitators of change. We need to move from one conversation to another. Change occurs when interested parties act together. What we do today shapes the data tomorrow.”
