… says that governance is essential
The vice president of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has warned those who drag it to the 2027 policy to file their campaigns, saying that it is premature since all the hands should be on deck to ensure that President Bola Tinubu succeeds.
He made the statement on Wednesday in a session with journalists.
His warning was immediate of the calls made by the Assembly of Progressive Youth of Northern Nigeria (NNPYA), urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to choose it as his formula partner in 2027.
He said: “Honestly, I don't want to say anything about this now. Because a point is very clear. Mr. President, since the beginning of this administration, has been trying to change the country's trajectory in a way that will bring prosperity to the nation.
“We all know the problems he inherited. And we have been working with him day and night. Because he is our father, he is the father of the nation. He is openly.
“We understand what you are doing. And I feel that at this time, it makes no sense to talk about all these problems. (Mate).
“What he is doing is a job in progress. I think the best thing he can do is cooperate with Mr. President and support him. Not only the legislature but all the people of this country should support the president.
“So, bringing this problem is quite premature. That's why I told those groups; frankly, I don't know them. I thank you for believing in me. But I told them, I looked, instead of wasting their energy in things that are not relevant now, they channel their resources to support the president.
“When the time comes, we will play politics in 2027. But this time it is for governance. This is the problem.
“The President is my political father. He will surprise you if I begin to tell you what he has done for me and my people. So, every time he asks me to do something, when the time comes, I will do it. I am very loyal to him.
“He will see, Mr. President is a very friendly person. When we had our problem in Kano, he solved that problem for us. It made me possible for me to give me the ticket to the Senate in 2023. It seemed to me that it made me the vice president of the Senate.
“Then, if the time comes and he says: 'I want you to work with me, well, I would say:' Thank you, Lord, and I will. Then, whatever I ask me to do, I will do it. I am loyal to him, 100%.
“The president is the father of the nation. Then, do not make mistakes. But for now, we keep him, we are working with him and we want to succeed. When he succeeds, we all succeed.
“Our religions are united. Because we come from the same family, we are progressive, I come from the progressive fold, where it comes from.
“We are all progressive. That is about my political history. I am a progressive for the nucleus.
“Then, we appreciate loyalty. I am 100% loyal to Mr. President. In 2027, I will do what I tell me to do.”
