The University of Ghana has issued an alert to staff, students and visitors about a recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases within the university community.
The University, in a statement from its Health Services Department on Monday, indicated that several suspicious and confirmed cases have been informed in the surrounding area, which led the university to implement caution measures.
“In the light of this development, the Health Services Directorate urges all personnel, students and visitors to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the recommended preventive measures to mitigate the risk of community infection and propagation,” says the statement.
The statement also described additional guidelines, which include:
The proper use of facial masks, especially in closed or people full areas.
Frequent hand washing with underwater soap, or the use of disinfectants from alcohol -based hands.
Maintain a physical distance from at least one meter whenever possible and avoid great meetings unless it is absolutely necessary.
The University of Ghana also advised the staff and the students who would guarantee good ventilation in offices, conferences rooms and meeting rooms. People who experienced any symptom similar to the flu to stay at home and seek immediate medical attention were urged.
“In response to resurgence, the Directorate of Health Services has reactivated its COVID-19 response protocols, which include detection and classification measures in health centers.”
“The situation is being monitored closely and regular updates will be provided to the university community,” he said part of the statement.
The Health Directorate also asked the university community to cooperate to protect each other during this challenging period.
