The Nigeria Transmission Company (TCN) has announced a significant expansion of the capacity of the national network with the successful energization of two new power transformers in its Kebbi transmission substation 330/132/33 Kilovolt Birnin Kebbi in the state of Kebbi.
According to Ndidi MBAH, the TCN spokesman, the 100 megavolts (MVA) and 150 MVA transformers put online on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 1:18 pm and 2:56 pm, respectively.
This installation has effectively increased the capacity of the substation from 300 MVA to 450 MVA.
This update means that the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kedco) now has 120 additional megawatts (MW) of bulk energy available for distribution to its customers in Kebbi, Sokoto and the surrounding areas.
The development also guarantees that TCN can maintain a normal massive source for Niamey, the capital of the Republic of Niger, which reflects Nigeria's commitment to regional energy agreements.
In a statement, TCN reiterated its dedication to continuous expansion and maintenance of the nation's transmission system, with the aim of achieving a more effective and efficient bulk power transmission network throughout the country.
