The general director of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (Nimet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has praised Nigerian journalists for their role in disseminating information about the climate and climate to the public.
Speaking in a media dialogue of a day with the subject, “Climate and Meteorological Reports for Live Safety” Held in Abuja, Anosike praised the media to accurately inform the nation's weather and weather conditions based on Nimet data.
Although he pointed out that the media are a critical part of the agency's work, he accused journalists to provide appropriate and precise reports, which according to him were necessary to avoid the hazards associated with climate and climate.
According to him, “Nimet's role is critical to safeguard lives and livelihoods of millions of Nigerians.
“Our weather forecasts and early warnings improve disaster preparation, guide agriculture and food production, and help pilots avoid dangerous conditions,” he said, and emphasized even more the importance of dialogue, which aims to train the media and civil society organizations with knowledge and tools necessary to carry out their roles more effectively.
Anosike said that the success of Nimet's mission is not based solely on the precision of his scientific data and forecasts; It also depends on effective communication and the dissemination of information to the public by the media.
The DG further highlighted Nimet's efforts to provide a quality service, in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
“Worthy of mention here, it is that, only in the last year, we have sponsored the staff to different categories of training inside and outside the country. The above adds to take the necessary measures to address the problems that bother in the welfare of the personnel, including facilitation of the payment of pending wages and other claims and benefits of personnel inherited by our administration,” he said.
Previously in his initial comment, the facilitator of the media dialogue, Mr. Bonaventure Phillips Melah, CEO of First Green White Resources and Integrated Services, said that the issue of dialogue was adequate taking into account the tendency of climate change.
He said: “Today's issue is the presentation of climatic and climatic reports; and I consider that the issue is very crucial because the weather and climate have a direct impact on our daily lives.

“Because the media play a vital role in informing the public about these critical problems, this dialogue was organized in recognition of the responsibility based on our shoulders with respect to the safety of lives and by extension, the general well -being of humanity.”
Melah also praised the Nimet DG and management for considering the media and civil society organizations as critical stakeholders.
Other speakers in the event emphasized the need for a continuous association in the media to guarantee a precise and timely response to weather reports.
