The United States embassy has clarified that the recent reduction in the validity of the visa for Nigerians is not related to deportation problems involving other countries, visa policies or affiliations such as BRICS.
Tribune Online reports that the new visa policy now limits most non -immigrants and non -diplomatic visas issued to the Nigerians to a single entry with a period of validity of three months.
In a shared publication in its official X (previously Twitter) account on Friday, the United States embassy addressed the growing speculation after the policy change, which has caused a debate among Nigerians.
Many had linked the decision with the deportation of Venezuelan citizens or Nigeria's position on the deportees of the third country.

Responding to the public reaction, the mission of the United States emphasized that the adjustment derives from a global review process guided by technical and security reference points, aimed at protecting the integrity of the United States immigration system.
The statement said: “The mission of the United States, Nigeria, wishes to address erroneous concepts about the recent reduction in the validity of the visa for most non -immigrant United States visas in Nigeria and other countries.
“This network is not the result of the position of any nation on the deportees of the third country, the introduction of visa policies or affiliations with groups such as BRICs.
“Validity reduction is part of a continuous global review of the use of visas from the United States by other countries that use technical and security reference points to safeguard the immigration systems of the United States.”
When reaffirming its diplomatic ties with Nigeria, the mission added: “We value our long -standing association with Nigeria and we continue to work closely with Nigerian public and government officials to help them meet those criteria and reference points, thus ensuring safe, legal and mutually beneficial trips among our nations.”
