The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, commented on Saturday that Nigeria’s future lies in giving voice and power to young people, stressing that the constitution of the ADC biddly affirms the place of youth and women in leadership.
Aregbesola, who made the comment after receiving deserters from the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP), the Congress of all progressives (APC) and the Labor Party (LP) to the party in Lagos, said that if the ADC has the opportunity to be in the power corridor, it will prioritize the well -being of the Nigerians.
The former governor of the State of Osun, in a statement made available to Osoagbo, declared: *“The constitution of ADC biddly affirms the place of youth and women in leadership. This is not tokenism, but a recognition that the future of Nigeria lies in giving voice, space and power for those who have long been sub -present for a long time.
“The constitution of the ADC assigns a 35% representation each for women and young people. Since these demographic data overlap, their combined representation will be no less than 50%. This structure makes the ADC, without a doubt, the party of young people.
“We are equally committed to internal democracy where each member’s voice matters and each vote counts.
According to the statement, Aregbesola told the deserters that the task before the party is to rescue the country and build a new Nigeria that future generations will be proud to inherit.
*“The task we have before us is clear: we must rescue this beautiful country from the path of destruction and build a new Nigeria: a nation that our children will be proud to inherit.
“ADC’s intervention is an urgent and absolutely necessary mission to save the Nation. The ADC’s strategy is to build from scratch and avoid conflicts.”*
In addition, he advised party members to avoid unproductive commitments and concentrate on strengthening the party.
“It asks everyone to diligently face our task of building the party from bottom to top and selling our ideas to people. We must avoid the distraction of the non -productive commitment of the debates and the fight with the agents of the dying dinosaurs,” he added.
In his comments, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said the ADC remained a movement with very brilliant perspectives.
Abubakar, who was represented by Professor Ola Olateju, Professor of Political Science at the University of Achievers, Owo, State of Ondo, said: “ADC, for us, it is not a political party. It is a movement, a movement of Nigerians for a better Nigeria.”
The deserters included the former presidents of Lagos PDP, Chief Muritala Ashorobi and Captain Tunji Shelley; Vice President of the PDP (Central Lagos), Tai Benedict; Chief Niyi Adams; and former youth leader of Lagos PDP, among others.
Aregbesola received the deserters in the company of Senator Kolawole Ogunwale, Mr. George Ashiru, the president of the ADC of the state of Lagos and other chiefs of lakes parties and beyond.
The National Secretary of ADC said that the country is currently going through a season of difficulties and uncertainty under current leadership, emphasizing the need to overcome partisanship and draw a new course.
He stressed that people are the center of politics and governance, warning that any government that does not make their welfare the basis of their policies will lose relevance.
He said: “People are the center of politics and government. Any government, whether democratic, military, authoritarian, monarchical or, for any definition, that does not make their well -being and well -being the basis of governance will soon lose relevance and die.
“There is a limit to which people can be squeezed and pushed before something finally gives.”
