The leaders of the southwest region under the auspices of Yoruba thought leaders (Egbe Ilosiwaju Yoruba) have appealed to the governors of Osun and the states of Oyo to intervene on the persistent battle of supremacy between the Alaafin de Oyo, Oba Akeem Oowoade and the IFE OONI, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwunwuswusi.

The leaders explained that the intervention of the governors Seyi Makinde and Adelala Adelev along with other prominent leaders in the region would help address the situation before degenerating in crisis.

In a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Monday in Ado-Ekiti by the National Secretary, Bayo Aina, on behalf of the national leader, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, the leaders urged the two venerated traditional rulers to avoid higher comments on the interest of peace and development of the region.

The statement says: “The group noticed with great pain the damage that the distraction of the story characterized by digging up for centuries of ridiculing or lionizing one part or another is causing Yoruba people worldwide.

“Instead of using such narratives with the purpose of forging unity and a sense of pride among our people, the narratives that can help us fulfill our destiny manifest as a leading group between the black race, historical narratives have armed themselves in a tool to promote discord and resentment.

“We are distressed at the moment when each hand must be on deck to support and guarantee an unquestionable success of one of the most illustrious Yoruba’s leaders and son and his son as well

“It is sad that many of our leaders are taking sides in a narrative that has no capacity to transform the current struggles of our people in Nigeria into a resounding victory over the technological and development gap existing between us and the rest of the world.

“We call on the executive governors of Oyo and the State of Osun to begin a high immediate fire among our venerated real parents and their supporters.

“We appeal to the southwest of the Obas Council to have a permanent committee that acts to cut a similar schism in the future in the future before subtracting the honor and astonishment that we have our traditional rulers. In case such protocols already exist, this channel should be used more in the future to avoid a repetition of this current shame.”
