The deputy spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbsese dismissed on Tuesday a recent media report that suggests that legislators are planning a confrontation with the speaker Abbas Tajudeen after the resumption of their annual recreation, describing it as a speculative and deliberate attempt to sow discord among the members.
Excmo Agbsese (APC-Benue) affirms this during a media chat with parliamentary correspondents selected in Abuja, argued that the publication misrepresented the true state of affairs in the camera, emphasizing that the members remain firmly united behind the speaker and the leadership team.
“The confidence of the members in RT. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen is not negotiable and unwavering. Since his appearance, the president has demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership, equity and deep respect for colleagues in all the lines of the party
“He has continued to take the members in the decision -making in line with the Mantra of the ‘House of the People’ and has shown an unparalleled commitment to the well -being of the members and the development of their constituencies,” Hon. Said Agbsese.
The deputy spokesman said that the complaints reported about the recruitment of the personnel in the National Assembly were based on mischief or erroneous information.
He clarified that the recruitment of the personnel was carried out by the National Services Commission of the Assembly, an independent agency, and not by the president or the tenth leadership of the Chamber.
“The attempts to drag the speaker to matters beyond their legal reach are unfortunate. The speaker has remained focused on strengthening the ability of members to fulfill their mandate to the Nigerians. Welfare, support for the circumscription and effective legislative commitment remain the distinctive seal of their leadership,” he added.
He, however, said that, as a leader with a listened ear, the speaker has constituted two special committees presided by the vice president, Hon Benjamin Kalu and the former vice president of the ninth camera, Hon. Idris Wase to look at several issues.
“Abbas Tajudeen has done more than enough to stabilize the house. During our first year in office, he had to throw all the acquired weight of previous leadership to accommodate everyone. This means that he had to give up his legal benefits for the first term in terms of projects and allocation of resources.
“He did not stop there, he decentralized some of the committees to guarantee not only broader supervision, but to ensure that many members occupy leadership positions.
“The speaker is completely accessible and works all day 24 hours. If he is not in the office, he is in his personal residence attending the concerns of the members individually and collectively.
“I remember a particular Christmas when I had to take about 13 members to him because they were stranded and had no rice to give their constituents. These are my colleagues and attest to the immediate result we obtained. It is enough to add that he has done enough to be the primus inter pairs, at the same time being a man of law who wants Mr. President to be successful.
“Parliament is not docile. You just can’t fight when there are no complaints. We are totally different from other government weapons and, from our rules of commitment, we also have our permanent order that makes things soft to obtain easy results.
“We have the history of Parliament and we can declare that Rt. Hon Abbas Tajudeen PHD. It is the best until now. No one can match their records. For many of us in this assembly, if the opportunity presents itself again, we will choose Abbas as a speaker and Benjamin Kalu again as his attachment again.
“Yes, it is true that there are challenges in some areas such as the constituency projects that the Executive has not done enough to finance. The leadership is not feeling at all to ensure that these things are delivered.
“You know in this sense, they are not the members but the constituents. Mr. Speaker feels our pains and does not sleep until something is done about it,” he said.
Excmo Agbsese even more assured the Nigerians than when the Chamber meets again on September 23, it would focus directly on national problems, especially the amendment exercise of the current Constitution, insecurity, economic reforms and the implementation of the budget, among others, instead of unnecessary distractions.
“What the speaker and the leadership of the tenth chamber are doing is to ensure that each member, regardless of the affiliation of the party or the regional inclination, has the necessary support to succeed in their voters and in Abuja. The Nigerians may be sure that the Chamber remains united, committed and focused on delivering its legislative responsibilities,” he drove.
He urged the media to always verify the facts before the publication, and avoid reports that could undermine the cordial employment relationship between the members and between the Legislature and the Nigerian people.
Excmo Agbsese even more assured Nigerians than the Chamber, under President Abbas, remains focused on offering legislation centered on people and receptive leadership that addresses the daily challenges of citizens throughout the country.
