… promises to take care of the family
The Minister of the Territory of the Federal Capital (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, made a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief of Service of the FCTA, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, who died on September 1, 2025.
In an atmosphere full of emotion and tears, Wike expressed his surprise for the news of his death, stating that he had no prior knowledge of any disease.
The minister expressed his deep respect for Adayilo, describing it as a dedicated and committed public servant, a true Christian and a woman you can trust.
He pointed out that when he first searched for a recommendation for the position of Head of Service, he was advised to consider a “very hardworking and reliable” woman, adding: “Since I started working with her, I had not had a reason for complaint.
Wike also shared that he had personally requested an extension of his president’s mandate, so that she could continue her invaluable contributions to the FCT administration, but regretted that her service was seen abruptly for death.
“I thought I was going to enjoy that; I didn’t know that death had other plans. But God knows better,” said the minister.
When heading to the afflicted family, Barrimer Wike emphasized the unpredictable nature of life and death, stating: “No one knows the day death will come; nobody gives him notice to prepare.”
He offered words of Consuelo and assured the family the continuous support of the FCT administration.
Wike also promised to cover all burial expenses and offered immediate employment to his children, if they need it.
He said: “It’s painful, it’s unfortunate. Money cannot replace it, but there is nothing we can do.
“I have come here to identify with you and say that the FCT administration will continue to identify with your family … we are going to support it as necessary. I know you have four children, but I do not know if they are working. If they are not working, we will assume that responsibility immediately to work and all the burial expenses, the FCT will take care of it.”
Responding in the name of the family, Bishop Jonathan expressed his deep gratitude for Wike for his visit and support. He described the deceased as “a true mother and philanthropist”, affectionately known as “Mama Africa.” He highlighted his commitment to community service, mentioning his efforts in the mentoring of orphans and widows, and emphasized that his death has left a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
Jonathan also praised the exceptional leadership of Wike in the FCT, pointing out the tangible impact of the development programs of its administration throughout the territory of the capital.
“Thank you, honorable minister, for coming to our house. We cannot thank you enough, but we ask you to bless you. And what you are doing for us in the FCT, it is only God who has designated him to work on behalf of Mr. President. This is the first time we feel the impact of the government on the FCT,” he added.
Wike, who signed the condolence registry opened for the deceased, then joined the family in prayers for the rest of the soul of the deceased Mrs. Adayilo.
