… as more than 300 parliamentarians, auditors, public finance experts converge in Abuja next week
The House of Representatives stressed on Wednesday the urgent need for parliaments throughout the African continent to strengthen the legislative supervision of public debts.

Salam, who expressed the preparation of Nigeria to organize more than 300 participants who are based on West Africa, southern Africa and East Africa, expressed his optimism that the 5 -day event will provide a platform where “each country will bring its own experience, and then we will discuss, and by the discussion, we will learn from each other.
“So, perhaps we are doing better than some countries, maybe we are worse. When we are in that conference and Ghana speaks, Mali speaks, South Africa speaks, Tanzania brings his own experience on how to supervise public debt, we can now strengthen our institutions to be able to surrender more.
“One of the results of the National Public Accounts Committee of Western Africa, provided we have conferences like this, is to take advantage of the experience of Parliament in sister nations, what we call the peer review mechanism, where we can all learn from each other.
“And, of course, he will agree with me that when he has such opportunities, he improves his performance. There is no country that is an island of knowledge or an island of experience. Yes, Nigeria is the best.
“It is the largest country. Nigeria is the most populous. We have the strongest democracy. But it is surprising to observe that there are some areas in which we learn from some of these sister countries about how to do things better in terms of our processes of supervision, planning, budgeting, etc.
“Then, one of the important expected results is to have a system that works better in each of the participating countries, to be able to close all the gaps, to be able to close all the gaps, to be able to close all the gaps, to be able to see even if there are new laws that we must establish as a result of the experience that the brothers parlates will share in that conference.

“And you will also agree with me that this part of parliamentary diplomacy, this part of what we can do to affirm the place of Nigeria.
“We are the greatest democracy, we are the most advanced economy in Africa, we are leaders and we should be leaders in all this.
“Then, one of the things we hope to do with this conference is to restore the leadership of Nigeria so that the image of our country is promoted, Nigeria’s morality is promoted when we can deliver a world class conference and also show them our hospitality and we can also improve what we do as Parliament and as a country in general,” Salam said.
While expressing the preparation of Nigeria to organize all delegates, love.
