Postal deliveries to the United States have fallen dramatically after the imposition of new Washington rates, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) announced on Saturday, citing a report from the AFP news agency.
The UN Postal Cooperation Agency revealed that mail traffic to the US has fallen into more than 80 percent, with 88 countries suspending services full or partially in response to tariffs.
The general director of the UPU, Masahiko Metaki, said that the agency is urgently working on “the rapid development of a new technical solution that will help the mail move again to the United States.”

Tariffs, introduced as part of Washington’s broader commercial measures, have made international mail management more complex and expensive for foreign postal operators. Several countries have complained of operational and financial tension in the maintenance of deliveries under the new rules.
The UPU, which coordinates postal services in 192 Member States, said that consultations are underway to find temporary measures while considering long -term adjustments.
This interruption adds to the intensity of commercial tensions between the United States and their partners, since tariff increases in a wide range of goods continue to cause criticism of companies and governments around the world.
