The Federal Government has appealed to the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (Nupeng) and the Labor Congress of Nigeria (NLC) to reconsider its planned national strike against the Dangote group on the alleged anti-union practices, emphasizing that the dialogue remains the best way to solve the dispute.
In a statement on Sunday, the Head of Information and Public Relations, Pacience UNOBIA, revealed that the Minister of Labor and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has intervened and invited all parties to a conciliation meeting scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025.
Dingyadi urged Nupeng to terminate his decision to close the oil sector of the Nation, warning that even a one -day strike could unleash devastating consequences in the economy and well -being of the citizens of Nigeria. He also asked the NLC to withdraw the red alert that he had issued to his affiliates to prepare for a solidarity strike in support of Nupeng’s protest against the alleged anti-trade policy of the Dangote group.
“I have invited all parties to a conciliation meeting tomorrow, Monday, September 8, 2025. Since I intervened, I beg with Nupeng that rescinds its decision to close the oil sector. Also appeal to the NLC to withdraw the red alert that issued its unions to prepare for a national footprint in solidness with Nupeng,” said the minister.

Highlighting the risks of interrupting the oil supply, Dingyadi emphasized that the sector remains the backbone of the country’s economy. According to him, a strike would not only lead to massive losses of income that reach billions of Naira, but also inflict difficulties to Nigerians who depend largely on oil products for daily life and economic activities.
“The oil sector is very important for this country. It constitutes the nucleus of the nation’s economy. A strike in the oil sector, even only for one day, will have an adverse impact on the economy. Not only will it cause large losses of income, but also cause incalculable difficulties for Nigerians,” he warned.
The minister assured the public that the federal government is committed to a friendly resolution, expressing its confidence that dialogue and cooperation would lead to a lasting solution that safeguards the rights of workers, respects trade unionism and guarantees stability in the oil sector.
“Therefore, I beg the unions to give peace a chance. I assure you that this matter will be resolved friendly to the satisfaction of all the parties involved,” Dingyadi added.
