Russia attacks Ukraine again, kills 24 people waiting for pension payments

A Russian strike killed 24 people on Tuesday waiting for pension payments in a leading city in East Ukraine, where Moscow is in conclusion of troops for a large -scale offensive, according to officials.

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, published a video that showed several corpses on the ground near a burnt minivan and recreation courtyard. Images AFP said I couldn’t verify independently.

“A brutally wild air attack with an air bomb in the rural settlement of Yarova in the Donetsk region. Directly on people. Ordinary civilians. At the same time the pensions were disbursed,” Zelensky wrote.

Russia has claimed the industrial region of Donetsk as part of its territory despite not having total control over it. kyiv said the Kremlin has gathered about 100,000 troops in a key part of the front line in preparation for a new offensive.

The Interior Ministry said that 24 people were killed, while the army reported that Moscow had used a sliding bomb, a weapon equipped with wings to attack the distance objectives.

Yarova, a rural settlement located about eight kilometers (five miles) from the front line, had a population before the war of around 1,900 people.

The AFP journalists in eastern Ukraine witnessed mourners outside a morgue where the staff had established at least 13 bodies in black bags.

Zelensky asked Ukraine allies to respond to the attack.

“A response from the United States is needed. A response from Europe is needed. A G20 response is needed,” he said. “Strong actions are needed for Russia to stop bringing death.”

The Attorney General of Ukraine said he had launched an investigation of war crimes on the strike.

The postal service of Ukraine, UCRPOSHTA, confirmed that one of his vehicles was damaged and that his head of the local department, identified as Yulia, was hospitalized. The organization, which provides public services in frontline areas, said it would change the way in which pensions and other services are distributed in the region.

The Russian forces have been moving forward in Donetsk for months, kyiv said, concentrating the power of fire in the region and moving in troops from other parts of the front. The authorities there have urged civilians to evacuate since the first days of the invasion in February 2022.

The Ukrainian commander in Chief Oleksandr Syrsky said this week that the Russian forces surpassed in number the Ukrainian troops in some areas and six times in other ones where Moscow has focused its offensive.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said he has been working in recent weeks to find a way to finish the war, but admitted that he has little to show for his efforts.

The last strike occurs only a few days after a Russian missile hit the headquarters of the Ukrainian government in the center of kyiv for the first time in the war of three and a half years.
