Dr. Maryam Shetty, former ministerial nominated under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, recently concluded a Kano Retitation Competition in Kano. Mariya Sanusi Bayero, the mother of the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, joined him. The event ended with a prayer for peace in the nation.
This competition, the first of its kind, was organized on the Shetty Facebook platform, where thousands of participants presented videos of themselves by reciting the Qur’an. A detection committee composed of experts from the National Competition Committee of the Koranic to review the tickets and selected the winners.
By discussing her motivation to organize competition, Dr. Shetty declared that her goal is to transform social networks platforms into spaces for faith, beauty and reflection instead of frivolity. She said: “We live in a time when digital platforms often amplify noise, discord and distractions. Instead of abandoning these spaces, I thought, why not claim them? Why not turn Tiktok and Instagram of Trivial Childhood Parks to Platforms of Faith, Beauty and Reflection?”
Dr. Shetty pointed out that the initiative, marked as “#Recitewithshetty”, was never only the competition. On the other hand, it was aimed at rekindling a love for the Qur’an, to provide young noble purposes for their online activities and remind them that their voices can be light sources in a digital world often eclipsed by darkness.
She emphasized: “What began as a modest initiative has become a movement that has captivated the imagination of our youth in northern Nigeria and beyond. Melodious recitations, sincere reflections and the infectious enthusiasm that the participants showed as a forest fire.”
He also expressed his gratitude to religious leaders, former heads of state and traditional rulers who recognized competition as a lighthouse of moral awakening, affirming cultural heritage and spiritual legacy.
Hajiya Mariya Sanusi Bayero praised Dr. Shetty’s efforts and urged young people to take advantage of their learning opportunities while praying for peace in the country.
The general winner of the competition was Nuraddeen M’azu de Abuja, who scored 97.6 points and won N1 million. Muhammad Khalid Idris de Bauchi arrived in second place with a score of 97.4, winning N500,000, while Aisha Tahir Idris of Jigawa occupied third place with 97 points and won N250,000.
Dr. Shetty mentioned that she and her team are already implementing strategies to expand the initiative, which has been well received, with the aim of turning it into a project for life destined to raise humanity beyond the minimum standards for an ideal individual and a full life.
