There were celebrations such as Dangote Cement PLC and the community of Jakura, on Wednesday, formalized a development agreement of the historical community (CDA).
This agreement will allow the company to implement mutually agreed social projects in the next five years.
The CDA with Jakura is one of several agreements that the company has established with its host communities. These agreements serve as ways for the transfer of impressive socio -economic development programs and projects.
During the signature ceremony for the CDA, Eng. Azad Nawabudin, Dangote Cement Plc’s plant director at the Obajana plant, was represented by ENGR. John Gwong, Chief General Manager of Production. He affirmed that the Agreement meets the requirements of Section 116 of the Law of Minerals and Mining of 2007 and Section 193 of the Minerals and the Mining Regulation 2011 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He stressed that the agreement demonstrates the company’s commitment to the development and general well -being of the Jakura community.
“For us, as a company, we believe in the mantra, the good neighborhood is a good business, therefore, we do everything possible to maintain a harmonious relationship with the communities where we operate,” he added.
The director of the plant said: “We expect the support of the state and local government while we seek to collaborate with relevant agencies of the State to implement some of the development programs cited in this agreement.”
According to him, a government structure will be established for the implementation of the agreement content.
Speaking, the group boss, the social performance, Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola said the agreement followed the stipulated steps according to the CDA Development Guide amended in 2023.
He said that although the year has almost come to an end, the company will begin the implementation of the CDA content, while ensuring a commitment to enjoy the solid relations between the company.
The head of groups, health, security, social, environment and sustainability, Dangote Industries Ltd (DIL), Mr. James Adenuga, said the company is a responsible corporate entity, adding that it is right to soften the company’s social license to operate.
General Manager, Social Performance, Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Mr. Adeyemi, praised the Jakura community for supporting and positive throughout the process of writing the agreement.
Solid mineral development minister, Mr. Dele Alake, said the government was proud of Dangote Cement for being a responsible corporate citizen, urging the community to continue coexisting with the company peacefully.
The minister who was represented by Mrs. Bimbo Olaoye said that the Government will continue to ensure that the company enjoys an operational grass without problems, while creating jobs and implementing social programs.
They also attend and sharing the same opinion is the federal officer of compliance with the Environment of Mines, the Ministry of Development of Solid Minerals, ENGR. Olufmi Olaitan, Director, Geological Services, Ministry of the State of Kogi of Solid Minerals, Mrs., Atinuke Onimode, President, Committee of the Solid Mineral Chamber, Kogi Sate House of Assembly, Mrs. Omotayo Ishaya and his vice, Jibril Abu.
Speaking in the name of his community, the obaro of the community of Jakura, HRH Usman, Ajibola Adaga, said: “This is a dream come true. Some of us who aspire to see that this becomes a reality we are not alive. In fact, it is a historical event, and the community of Jakura will never be the same again.”
Dangote Cement Plc praised for his unwavering interventions in several communities in the state of Kogi.
In his comment, the Olu de Apata, HRH Frederick Balogun, said that Aliko Dangote is a god sent, promising that communities will continue to be peaceful and be the ambassador of the Dangote group.
Representative of the President of the Local Government Area Lokoja, Excmo. Danjuma Muhammad Abubakar said that Kogi’s people will continue to be Mr. Aliko Dangote’s ambassadors for his numerous interventions in Thei.
