The governor of Edo, on Monday, Okpebholo, approved the payment of the first section to disconnected workers from the education universities in Ekiadolor and Igueben, who were fired under alleged circumstances controversial by the immediate administration of the State.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the head secretary of the state governor, Fred Itua, and made available to journalists on Monday in Benin.
Itua declared that the gesture he described as a milestone reflected Okpebholo’s commitment to the equity, justice and well -being of his workforce.

He revealed that a total sum of ₦ 4,600 million has been allocated for the liquidation of workers’ rights benefits disconnected.
According to him, the total sum covers 682 pensioners of the Faculty of Education, Ekiadolo and 32 pensioners of the Faculty of Education, Igueben.
He says: “The payment, which will be made in four sections, amounts to ₦ 1,164,507,285.17 per section.
“The first section has now been disbursed for both the disconnected personnel and for the retirees of the two universities, in strict adhesion to the provisions of Nigeria’s pension law.
“In an additional demonstration of their commitment to restore dignity to those who attended the State, Governor Okpebholo also approved the immediate release of ₦ 292 million as the second section of pension rights to disconnect the personnel of the universities of agriculture, the iguoriokhi and the agenbodo.
“Payment is scheduled to be made on Wednesday of this week or before.
“With this intervention, the state government has so far published a total of ₦ 1.4 billion to the four education universities, providing relief to hundreds of families and reaffirming its resolution to prioritize the well -being of citizens who have dedicated their years of service to the growth of the state of Edo.
“This bold action of the governor on Monday of the administration led by Okpebholo is a continuation of the impulse of government reform to reposition the education sector, while ensuring that those who were affected by a previous bag do not stay behind.
“It is also a reflection of the vision of the governor of a state of Edo, fair, fair and prosperous, where equity and compassion are guiding principles of governance.
“The Government of the State of Edo assures all those interested, especially retirees and personnel disconnected from state institutions, that this process will be carried out until the end until each legitimate right is completely established.“
