Before the elections of the next February in the election of the Federal Council of the area of the Capital Territory, INEC has declared that the political parties and their candidates could begin the campaigns.
A statement by Sam Olumekun, national commissioner and president of the Voting Information and Education Committee, said such campaigns must end at midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
However, the statement warned that “it is illegal to use abusive language, carry out physical attacks against opponents during manifestations, processions and meetings or destroy the materials of its campaign.”

The statement said: “In line with the provision of section 94 (1) of Electoral Law 2022 and item 8 of the calendar and the calendar of activities, the political parties that participate in the election of the Council of the Federal Capital Capital Territory of 2026 (FCT) are now free to begin their election campaigns in public as of Wednesday, September 24, 2025 and end in the middle of the night of Thursday, February 19, February 19, February 19, 20.
“As considered in sections 92 and 93 of the Electoral Law of 2022, the Commission wishes to remind the political parties, the candidates and their supporters that it is illegal to use an abusive language, carry out physical attacks against opponents during manifestations, processions and meetings or destroy their campaign materials.
“Similarly, all parties and candidates must have access without obstacles to public facilities for media campaigns, outdoor advertising, as well as public meetings and meetings. To avoid doubts, section 95 (2) of the electoral law of 2022 prohibits the use of incumbency to the advantage or disadvantage of any part or candidate.
“The election of the FCT area council will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026.“
