The state government of Borno, in collaboration with development partners, has honored outstanding health workers, local government presidents and traditional leaders who distinguished themselves in the fight against polyomyelitis, routine immunization and the promotion of medical care at the base level.
In a ceremony in Maiduguri, Vice Governor Umar Kadafur presented Banking Certificates and Banking Checks to the beneficiaries, describing recognition as part of the government’s commitment to strengthen the delivery of medical care throughout the state.
“We are doing all this to ensure that our people enjoy the best medical care services. We have built nursing universities, hospitals and primary medical care centers. But beyond the infrastructure, we must also support and motivate those who are outstanding in the fulfillment of their duties,” Kadafur said.

He pointed out that the initiative would inspire health workers to do more, but warned the presidents of the local government against night review meetings. Such negligence, he warned, could discourage first -line personnel and undermine the state’s health objectives.
In addition, he directed the district leaders and the traditional rulers to actively participate in the review sessions in their respective areas.
The reward initiative was jointly organized by the Primary Health Development Board of the State of Borno and the Ministry of Health and Human Services, with the support of UNICEF and other partners.
The Human Health and Services Commissioner, Prof. Baba Malum wins, said the scheme would strengthen the health system, would cause healthy competence between advice and promote the property of primary medical care programs.
“It will promote immunization, improve awareness about malnutrition and neonatal mortality, and ultimately will bring us closer to achieve universal health coverage in the state of Borno,” Win said.
The beneficiaries were selected using criteria established by Bill Gates Challenge Fund, which emphasizes the exceptional performance in the provision of medical care.
The executive director of the State Primary Health Development Board, Prof. Arab Alhaji, described recognition as a milestone.
“This is the first time an exercise is organized.
He stressed that traditional rulers have a fundamental role to play to persuade residents to adopt immunization, particularly in communities with resistance or zero dose vaccination cases.
The winners of the awards included the president of the Local Government of Khaya-Kusar, Salihu Yanga, who emerged in general and first in southern Borno, followed by the president of Chibok.
In Central Born, Mafa Lga was first, while Konduga took second place, while in northern Borno, Kaga and Magumeri Lga they secured the first and second positions respectively.
In his comments, Yanga praised the government and the partners for recognition, describing it as “a motivation to do more in the delivery of quality health services to our people at the base level.”
Also speaking, the president of Kaga Lga, Mahir Goni Abdallah, promised a renewed commitment to address polyomyelitis, closing immunization gaps and addressing zero dose cases in the area of ​​his council.
