The Chartered Institute of Compress and Supply Management in Nigeria (CIPSMN) has included 255 new members as part of the efforts to strengthen professionalism and responsibility in acquisition in government and private sectors.
Income includes public officials, public sector and academic workers.
Delivening His Keynote Address In Abuja On Friday, The President of The Institute, Alhaji Sikiru Oladepo Balogun, Said: “You are today, Worthy of Celebration for the Achievements Made Leading to Your Admission into the Graduate Membership Status. Duty To Reure Compliance With The Ethical Code of Practice and Demonstrate Knowledge of the Profession Be It, In Public Or Private Sector Organization in Procurement, Materials, Logistics and Warehouse Officers or any other related function assigned.
“It will be his duty to maintain ethical responsibility as enshrined in the Law of Establishment of the Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria No. 2 of 2007. He is entrusted with the rare opportunity to contribute significantly to our society to solve the problems of the real world and inspire the change for the best.
“Public members here and those who will receive status as a partner from the Institute and will be able to tell you about their work and contributions to the development and growth of this profession before being recognized today.”
Balogun urged the induced to use their positions to address challenges such as the increase in the cost of goods and services and poor infrastructure, which it described as linked to corruption in Nigeria.
He said: “How will it contribute to reducing poverty and hunger in the country? Do not join the band’s car to perpetuate corruption related to acquisitions, since the institute will not save anyone who enjoys any act of indiscipline or professional misconduct.
“It must exhibit sense of commitment, adhesion to the established norms and regulations or an act of undermining the integrity of the acquisition profession.”
He added that the Institute would apply disciplinary measures, including the delivery of errors members to the law enforcement agencies, to defend the integrity of the profession.
The Institute Registrar, Prof. Aliyu Mohammed Aliyu, presented a document entitled “Contributions of the Management Practice of the Supply Chain and National Development Supply: A call to adequate recognition.” He pointed out that many Nigerian professionals face bad remuneration and limited professional progression because they work under unqualified individuals.
Aliyu said: “Nigeria faces huge financial debts, arbitrary fluctuations of Naira’s exchange rates and other foreign currencies, lack of sophisticated technology to extract our abundant minerals among other vices due to adequate responsibility.”
He appealed to the Government to recognize the acquisition management and the supply chain as essential for an effective implementation of the budget, a good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends.
“According to him, the government at all levels should publicly express its adhesion to the rule of law, regulations and must act scrupulously in accordance with its principles, practices, ethics and professionalism.”
Some of the new members expressed their satisfaction with their admission and promised to defend the ethics and laws of the profession as CipsMN ambassadors.
