The former governor of the State of Anambra and presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, has expressed concern about the silence of the federal government about the ongoing industrial action by the Association of Senior Personnel of Petroleum and Natural Gas of Nigeria (Pegassan).
In a shared statement through its official X mango on Monday, Obi warned that the strike, which has already begun to affect citizens and the economy, requires an urgent intervention of the authorities.
“I am concerned about the lack of response from the government to the threat and at the eventual beginning of a strike by Pegasan, which is already having a very adverse impact on Nigerian citizens and the Nigerian economy,” Obi said.
He appealed to the Federal Government to involve the Union and resolve the dispute in a way that safeguards the interests of workers, investors and the Nigerian economy in general.
“The protection of these interests in a beneficial way is the main responsibility of any responsible government,” he added.
Obi also urged the Government to adopt proactive measures in the management of labor disputes, emphasizing that the crises of this nature only worsen the difficulties of the Nigerians who are already fighting.
“The Federal Government must learn to border the crisis in the labor crisis that has the potential to create greater suffering for citizens who are already in the difficulties of our beloved country,” he said.
The National Executive Council (NEC) of Pengasan had ordered the members of last week of the entire country that immediately closed the oil and raw gas supply to the Dangote oil refinery after the supposed sack of 800 workers by the Dangote oil refinery last Thursday.
