Ahead of the October 27 date for the holding of the All Progressives Congress primaries for the Ekiti State governorship primaries, the coast appears clear for the incumbent governor, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has disqualified his main rival for the party’s candidacy, Engineer Kayode Ojo.

Honorable Duro Meseko, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, announced the decision of the NWC on Thursday at the end of its meeting.
Also disqualified from the race was Honorable Olajumoke Olawunmi, while Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo was cleared for the primaries alongside Governor Oyebanji.
According to Honorable Meseko, the national leadership of the party based its decision to dismiss Engineer Ojo and Mrs Olawunmi on the basis that their nominations did not comply with the provisions of the party’s Constitution and certain provisions of the Electoral Act.
He said: “The presentation of their nominations did not comply with the provisions of the party’s Constitution or the current provisions of the Electoral Law.”
Checks for Online tribune revealed that Engineer Ojo received provisional clearance from the Governors Selection Committee chaired by a federal legislator, Honorable Tunji Olawuyi.
The APC National Working Committee also announced the dissolution of the Enugu State Working Committee and announced a seven-person interim team to be chaired by Dr. Ben Nwoye.
When asked by journalists whether the dissolution of the Enugu APC SWC was aimed at pleasing loyalists of Governor Peter Mbah ahead of his rumored decision to ditch the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary feigned ignorance of Governor Mbah’s decision to join the ruling party.
He said: “All I can say is that several governors will arrive shortly. But the problem is that the number continues to grow. The dissolution has nothing to do with the governor. The party has become polarised, almost torn apart and we believe that the best thing that can be done is to harmonize for the health of the party in Enugu State.
“The decision was made in the interest of progress, peace, stability and tranquility of the APC in Enugu State.”
Aside from the plan to establish an APC reconciliation committee to be chaired by the former governor of Osun State and its pioneer national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, Meseko also revealed that “the previously announced APC constitutional amendment committee will commence public hearings this October.
“I’m sure the dates will be announced very soon. But just to let the public know that the process for amending our constitution will go into effect very soon and public hearings will begin sometime this October. So I believe that within the next week, these public hearings will begin as a precursor to the major amendments that will be made.”
