Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has reaffirmed his commitment to the empowerment of youth and women with a fresh donation of £100,000 each to 203 women entrepreneurs in the state.
Tambuwal made the announcement on Saturday at the YHK Vibrant Fair, a trade exhibition held at K7 Mall, Sokoto, where young women showcased locally made fashion pieces, food products, handicrafts and beauty accessories.
The fair brought together 203 small business owners, many of whom were recipients of Tambuwal’s COVID-19 economic recovery grant during his tenure as governor.
Fair organizer Yasmin Hassan Kangiwa said the growing success of women was due to the empowerment initiative launched by Tambuwal years ago.
“We owe our business success to his bold decision to empower us back then,” Kangiwa said. “That support laid the foundation for our businesses to thrive.”
Participants praised the former governor for investing in their dreams and described him as a consistent supporter of women-led businesses.
In his remarks, Tambuwal praised the exhibitors for their creativity and resilience and said their progress demonstrated that empowerment programs can transform lives.
“I am proud of their determination and their achievements,” he said. “This support of ₦100,000 is to help you become even stronger – your success is Sokoto’s success.”
The gesture, totaling £20.3 million, reinforces Tambuwal’s reputation as one of the strongest advocates for Sokoto’s inclusive economic growth through the empowerment of women and youth.
