An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its national convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order on Monday while ruling on an ex parte motion filed before the court by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, who sued as plaintiff/applicant in suit number I/1336/2025.

The accused in the case include the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum (for himself and for members of the party’s National Working Committee and National Executive Committee), Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (for himself and members of the National Convention Organizing Committee) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his ruling, Justice Akintola granted all the interim orders sought by the plaintiff, restraining the defendants or their agents from truncating or frustrating the holding of the national convention scheduled by the party. The court also ordered the PDP leaders to strictly adhere to the earlier published guidelines, schedule and calendar of activities for the convention.

The court further ordered the party and its relevant committees to hold, conduct and convene the elective national convention as scheduled in Ibadan, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notification. The judge also ordered INEC to attend, monitor and observe the conduct of the convention in accordance with the Electoral Law.

Justice Akintola stated that the plaintiff had established a case warranting urgent judicial intervention and commended the plaintiff’s demonstration of transparency in filing a motion for notice of interlocutory injunction along with the ex parte application.

The matter has been adjourned until November 10, 2025, for hearing of the notice appeal.

The certified true copy of the registration of the order was signed by the Principal Registrar of the Oyo State High Court, Mrs. SO Hammed and issued in Ibadan under the seal of the court on November 3, 2025.
