The National Chairman of the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, has expressed concern that Nigeria’s democratic system is currently facing serious threats from those seeking to truncate it.
Damagum raised the alarm while speaking in Bauchi on Saturday, assuring citizens that the PDP remains prepared to rescue the nation from danger in 2027.
He said: “Nigeria’s democracy is witnessing challenges ranging from governance failures to insecurity and economic hardship. The country requires urgent political intervention.
“The PPD, being a major opposition party with national reach, is in a position to restore confidence in democratic institutions and protect the will of the people.”
Damagum further noted that preparations for the PDP National Convention are progressing smoothly, without internal crises or distractions, and assured that it will take place as scheduled.
He said the party has put in place solid agreements that will lead to a successful and peaceful convention, which he described as a defining moment for the PDP and for Nigeria’s political future.
The PDP National Chairman appealed to Nigerians to rally around the party, support its ideals and unite to take back the country from what he described as misrule.
He stressed that the PDP remains committed to accountability, economic revival and the well-being of citizens, and called on stakeholders to remain steadfast.
