Ahead of the 2027 Kogi gubernatorial election, the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Sunday Karimi, has said he is engaging with the people of Kogi East and trusts that they will collaborate to secure the governorship position.
The federal lawmaker made the call during the 2025 edition of the Kabba Day cultural celebration held at Community Township Stadium over the weekend.
His words: “We are interacting with our people in the East and they are collaborating with us. The East is ready to support us and we must hijack the leadership,” he said.
He appealed to the youths of Okunland to refrain from collaborating with bandits and instead support the government in its efforts to achieve peace and development in the area.
According to Karimi, it would be dangerous for young people to collaborate with the bandits who terrorize the area. Instead, they should support government initiatives to overcome the menace.
“We must work together to create a safe and prosperous environment for all. I urge the youth to shun banditry and support the government in its efforts to bring peace and development to our region,” Karimi said.
Karimi expressed his pride in partnering with the Kabba community, noting that Kabba is the headquarters of Okunland and emphasized that he would continue to work with the community to accelerate development.
Karimi urged the youth to maintain peace and avoid acts that may disturb the tranquility in the area.
The highlight of the event was his donation of N20 million on the spot and he promised to join his partners to mobilize an additional N30 million before the end of the year, making his total donation of N50 million for community development.
