President Bola Tinubu has postponed his trips to South Africa and Angola for the G20 and AU-EU summits following fresh security incidents in Kebbi and Kwara states.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday.
Tinubu was previously scheduled to travel to Johannesburg for the G-20 Summit and then head to Luanda for the AU-EU Summit.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu canceled the trips to focus on the attack on worshipers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, and the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
He said the President ordered the deployment of additional security personnel in Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, with the directive to track down the attackers.
Onanuga revealed that “in response to the request of the Governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of more security men in Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, and ordered the police to hunt down bandits who attacked worshipers.”
He is expected to receive more security reports on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on worshipers of the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
Recall that President Tinubu had on Tuesday directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State to sympathize with the state government over the kidnapping of 25 students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State and the tragic murder of the Deputy Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku.
President Tinubu also reiterated his directive to the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls kidnapped by the bandits and return them home safely.
