Managing Director of Winhomes Global Services Limited, Eng. Stella Okengwu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, saying his release would accelerate peace, unity and national healing.

In an open letter to the president, Okengwu said his appeal was “not about politics” but a call to restore calm and rebuild trust in all regions.

While he acknowledged that Tinubu did not initiate Kanu’s detention, he noted that he has the authority to “end the pain, close a dark chapter and open a new one full of reconciliation and hope.”

According to her, the continued detention of the IPOB leader has contributed to increasing tension in the South East and deepening divisions across the country, burdens that she believes “no nation seeking progress should carry.”

Okengwu maintained that Kanu’s release would reduce unrest, foster national unity and strengthen President Tinubu’s legacy as a leader who chose dialogue at a decisive moment.

He added that many Nigerians see the move as an opportunity for the administration to set a new tone.

“It will calm the South East. It will rebuild trust with the Igbo people. It will unite Nigerians of all tribes. It will strengthen his legacy as a peacemaker. It will remove a major national distraction and enhance dialogue on violence,” he wrote.

Appealing to Tinubu’s sense of empathy, Okengwu added: “Your Excellency, you understand the struggle, the injustice and the weight of being misunderstood. This is your time to lead with compassion where others could not.”

He further described the emotional and national dimensions of the issue, noting: “A mother wants her child back. A region wants healing. A nation wants peace. And only you can make this happen.”

Okengwu concluded his letter with a plea to the President to release the detained IPOB leader, adding that this would heal the country of its distresses.

“Let this be the time when Nigeria begins to heal. Choose unity. Choose peace. Choose Nigeria.”
