Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has warned politicians plotting to rig the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state, issuing a stern warning that anyone attempting to rig the polls “will face madness.”
The governor, in a now viral video, said Oyo voters have become more politically aware and will not tolerate any form of electoral manipulation.
Makinde, who noted that his term was coming to an end, emphasized that the political landscape in 2027 would be shaped by new actors.
“In a few months I will be out of here. I have already begun preparations for the transition.
“In 2027, there will be other players there. If they think attacking Seyi Makinde and politicizing this issue will make people vote for them, maybe they should think again. The people of Oyo State are wiser,” he said.
He further advised those who consider electoral malpractice to abandon such plans, emphasizing that the people will ultimately determine the next leaders of the state.
“The next set of leaders will be the ultimate deciders. If you think you can rig the governorship election in Oyo State in 2027, think again. ‘Were la n fi wo are’,” he said.
The phrase “Were, la n fi wo are” was first popularized by Fuji music artist Taye Akande Adebisi, popularly known as Taye Currency, after he said the phrase at the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, in September.
Taye Moneda, during his performance at the coronation ceremony held in Mapo Hall in Ibadan, translated the now popular line.
