The Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, has called on the 44 local government areas of the state to fully participate and highlight their agricultural strength at the 2025 National Agricultural Exhibition in Karu, Nasarawa State.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the annual event, the Commissioner, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Bashir Abubakar Yaro, said it was time for government at all levels to refocus its attention on agriculture as a major employer of labour, especially amid rising unemployment.
He noted that the Kano State Government has strengthened community value chains in all LGAs, focusing on women and youth empowerment.
According to him, agricultural development remains vital to the prosperity of the community, since “when a farmer prospers, the community prospers.”
The National Agricultural Exhibition serves as a platform for farmers, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders to showcase products, exchange knowledge and attract investments. Alhaji Othman expressed confidence that the 2025 edition would boost industrialization, enhance economic diversification and create employment opportunities across the state.
Alhaji Yaro further highlighted government initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and agribusinesses, including provision of inputs, credit facilities and training programmes.
He encouraged Kano participants to use the event to network, learn new practices and explore business perspectives that could improve productivity.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aminu Bello Sani, the four-day event will bring together farmers, policymakers, researchers, academicians and industry players to promote agricultural growth and stimulate economic development. States and LGAs presenting the best performances or innovations will receive prizes.
The Commissioner commended the organizers and urged all stakeholders to collaborate to unlock the agricultural potential of the 44 Kano LGAs, highlighting that the sector is the key to sustainable development and widespread economic prosperity.
