The Chairman of Maiyama Local Government in Kebbi State, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu-Liba, has dismissed allegations of misconduct leveled against him.
The issue arose after the Maiyama Local Government Progressive Union filed a petition, which was read out on Wednesday during the Kebbi State Assembly session by the Speaker, Alhaji Mohammed Usman.
The petition accused the president of converting an 18-seater Toyota bus for personal use, failing to complete the Maiyama-Andarai electricity project despite full payment, selling two tracks and a filling loader owned by the council and disposing of plots at Dadin Kowa market without approval.
Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, Aliyu-Liba rejected the claims and said they were baseless. He noted that the heavy machines mentioned in the petition were auctioned with the approval of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
He also said that the 18-seater bus was still in use and assigned to political support activities for the governor and the president.
“The 18-seater bus is on the ground; it was never sold as alleged. It is in my custody as the chairman of the Maiyama local government,” he said.
Regarding the electrical project, he explained that it was already completed and that the community was already receiving electricity supply.
“I wrote to the governor about the need to repair Andarai power supply and he approved N245 million for the project.
“The work is 100 per cent completed and Andarai enjoys adequate power supply,” he assured.
Aliyu-Liba also asked the petitioners to present evidence, especially in relation to the alleged allocation of plots at Dadin Kowa market.
“There was no such assignment during my tenure. Frivolous and unfounded allegations of political blackmail cannot be sustained without compelling evidence,” he said.
“The investigation into the petition has not yet been officially notified to me,” he said.
He encouraged Maiyama residents to remain calm and respect the law as the assembly completes its review.
Andarai District Councilor Alhaji Haruna Musa supported the President’s statement and confirmed that the electricity project has been completed and residents now enjoy a constant supply.
