An Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday sentenced Obisesan Saltan, an 18-year-old youth, to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Lagos.

The court, presided over by Judge Rahman Oshodi, handed down seven years in prison for indecent treatment of a child and three years for sexual assault by penetration.

The crime is said to have occurred on October 11, 2023, at around 9:30 pm in the Gbagada area of the state.

Saltan was first prosecuted on November 25, 2025 by the Lagos State Government (LASG), where he pleaded not guilty.

However, during subsequent hearings, prosecution witnesses testified against him, leading to a plea deal on November 4, 2024.

During the resumption of proceedings, Saltan confirmed his understanding and acceptance of the terms of the plea agreement.

His lawyer, Adegboyega, pleaded for leniency, stressing that Saltan lost his mother when he was a baby and has been learning shoemaking to improve his life.

However, LASG lawyer Bukola Okeowo urged strict compliance with the plea agreement, requesting that Saltan’s name be recorded in the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Registry in accordance with the Sexual Offenses Act (2015 amendment).

In his verdict, Justice Oshodi sentenced Saltan to serve 10 years concurrently from the date of his arrest on October 11, 2023.

The judge also ordered the inclusion of Saltan’s name on the sex offender registry as required by law.
