As the 2026 gubernatorial election approaches, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Osun State, on Thursday revealed that the commission has officially completed the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise with a total of 209,110 registrations completed.
The public relations officer of the commission, Musa Olurode, who made this known in a statement in Osogbo, accused the public of pointing out that the registered figure has not yet translated into validly registered voters.
According to him, the figure remains preliminary and is subject to further verification and cleaning processes and “the Commission appreciates the cooperation of citizens, stakeholders and community leaders who contributed to the smooth development of this phase.”
“According to the approved schedule, the exhibition of preliminary voter registration will take place between December 15 and 21, 2025 in all registration centers in the state.
“This viewing period serves as an important opportunity for complaints and objections, allowing registered voters to verify and confirm their details in the registry.
“Request corrections when necessary and raise objections when entries are incorrect or fraudulent.
“The Commission in the state, under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, encouraged all registered voters in Osun State to visit the INEC local government area offices where they originally registered to verify their details during the viewing exercise.
“This step is crucial to ensure the accuracy, integrity and credibility of the voter registry prior to future election activities.
“In addition, the Commission wishes to remind the public that the second phase of Continuous Voter Registration will begin on Monday, January 5, 2026.
“All eligible citizens who were not able to register during the first phase are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
“Osun State INEC remains committed to transparency, inclusivity and strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process,” he said.
