The newly elected leadership of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to fulfill his promise of N2.5 million to the best graduating student of the Department of Civil Engineering, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, for the 2022/2023 session, Comrade Oriwayi Samuel, who passed away recently.
This was stated in the acceptance speech of the new President of the Association, Comrade Oluwafemi Ajayi, following the election of the new executive and Senate leadership during their National Convention held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, on Saturday.
He commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to the development of education in the state.
He said: “NAOSS commends His Excellency Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, for his commitment to the development of education in Ogun State. As Chairman of the Southern Governor’s Forum, he has distinguished himself in all ramifications, especially in the aspect of students’ welfare.
“We passionately appeal to the friendly father and governor of our students to remember his promise to the late Comrade Oriwayi Samuel, also known as Samoris.
“He was the best graduating student 2022/2023, of the civil engineering department, we plead with the governor to forward the promise of N2.5 million to his family.”
Ajayi applauded the NAOSS senators and the convention planning committee for upholding the constitution without bias, and commended the officers of the state police command and the DSS for ensuring a very peaceful environment without any rancor.
The newly elected members of the executive committee are Ajayi Oluwafemi Sunday, Chairman; Olanose James, Vice President 1; Lawal Gbolahan, Vice President 2; Kamil Iseoluwa, Secretary; Folarin Israel, Auditor; Jamiu Mubaraq, Director of Welfare; Adeosun Joshua, Public Relations Officer 1; and Oderinde Tosin, Public Relations Officer 2.
Others are Lawal Taofeek, social director; Abdulazeez Bashir, AGS 2; Mustafa Damilola, Treasurer; and Sobowale Bright, Public Relations Officer 3.
The Senate leadership consists of Olabode Opeyemi, President of the Senate; Tijani Abdulazeez, vice president of the Senate; Sokoya Abdulkareem, Secretary; and Sodipe Emmanuel, Chief Whip.
The Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC), Comrade Akinwunmi Akinshola, thanked the 60 senators selected from different campuses and urged them to cast their votes without fear or bias.
Akinshola, however, appealed to all aspirants to embrace peace and sportsmanship, stressing that the elections were not a matter of life and death and that only one person could hold a given position at a time.
