A political group in Kogi State, the Kogi APC Renaissance Forum, has expressed support for President Bola TinubuAnti-Corruption Efforts in Nigeria.
In a statement made by its spokesperson, Adejo Emmanuel, the forum emphasized that the recent anti-corruption crackdown by the Tinubu administration is not solely targeting members of opposition parties; APC members also face prosecution.
A notable example is former Governor Yahaya Bello, who is currently being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of diversion and embezzlement of Kogi State funds.
He faces a 16-count fraud charge totaling N80.2 billion and an additional N110 billion, among other allegations involving party members.
Corruption poses a significant challenge to governance and affects democracy, electoral integrity, social cohesion and economic growth.
It undermined economic and social development, despite various anti-corruption efforts made in the past. The widespread and systemic nature of corruption in Nigeria demonstrates that it is deeply embedded in governance.
The nature of corruption in Nigeria, often perpetrated by politically exposed persons (PEPs), requires a much stronger approach to effectively address it.
According to the group, President Tinubu has demonstrated a strong commitment to tackling corruption, clearly distinguishing between partisan politics and effective governance.
“It is crucial that corruption has appropriate consequences, and diligent prosecution plays a key role in this process.
“The fight against corruption in Nigeria requires a paradigm shift and bolder actions to address its complex and deeply rooted nature.
“The forum calls on all well-meaning Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed efforts against corruption, urging those involved in rampant corruption to cease their actions immediately or risk facing prison sentences.”
